South Carolina House District 23
Dear Friend and Constituent:
I want to thank you for your support for the past 12 years in the South Carolina House of Representatives. Since that time I have voted for the following:
Voted for a strong domestic violence law
Voted to reduce auto, property, and income taxes
Voted for strong property rights bill to protect homeowners from big time developers.
Voted against school vouchers that promote an unfair educational structure
Voted to reform workers’ compensation.
Voted to fund Medicaid for our seniors and children.
Voted for judicial reform and diversity.
I am running for re-election because we must continue to bring diversity to our court system, continue to reform our education system, protect the rights of seniors and give them proper nursing home care, and to fully fund our Medicaid system.
Right now Democrats enjoy a level of seniority in District 23 because of my service. I am Vice Chairman of the Greenville County Legislative Delegation, I am a ranking member on the House Judiciary Committee, and a ranking member on the Judicial Merits Selection Committee. I have earned these positions by working hard for you. If we elect a weak Democrat, black or white, that Democrat will not be placed in a position where he or she can make a difference.
Democrats cannot afford to place a weak team member in the House because that person's ineffectiveness will prevent both white and black Democrats from getting elected in other areas of the state, and hurt us in our attempt to regain control of the House and the Senate. I ask you to give me the Democratic nomination in the primary on June 10th, and return me to the South Carolina House of Representatives in November so that we can continue my vision on education reform, affordable housing, economic development and judicial diversity.
On Tuesday, June 10, District 23 has the power to nominate a representative who will keep our district together. Polls are open 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. To find your polling location or with questions about voting in South Carolina call 864 232 6541 or email info@fletchersmith2008.com. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Fletcher Smith
